Oklahoma, early statehood Recognizance for Appearance Before Court for a pair of Chickasha landhol
Oklahoma, early statehood "Recognizance for Appearance Before Court" for a pair of Chickasha landholders, sworn before U.S. Marshall E.M. Payne November 2, 1908. This is a partly printed and filled in document (Form No. 296) has a letterhead of "United States of America // Indian Territory," but was used after statehood was granted in 1907, thus "Indian Territory" has been overwritten "Oklahoma." The men pledged a surety to the court of $500. The document bears the embossed seal of E.M. Payne, United States Commissioner. The Payne family was very influential in early Oklahoma, as "Boomers" and large land holders, themselves. Payne County in the state memorializes their contributions. This document measures approximately 8.5" by 14". Condition is Excellent. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
