According to the included factory letter, this revolver was shipped the Turner Hardware Company of Muskogee, Oklahoma Territory on 1 November 1903. Before Statehood in 1907, the Oklahoma Territory was the proposed site for the State of Sequoyah, a hypothetical Indian State that would have used Muskogee as it's capital. Fixed sights with the 2-line, three date patent markings on the left side of the frame next to the Rampant Colt, blue trigger and hammer and smooth ivory grips. The back strap is inscribed "James J Wheat", identified by the consignor as Loving County rancher and spur collector Jimmy Wheat, who donated his large volume of top quality spurs to the National Ranching Hertiage Center at Texas Tech University in 1985. The collection included 920 spur pairs and singles and 119 bits. Wheat oversaw a 200 section ranch were approximately 300 oil wells were producing. He was known for driving Rolls Royce and Mercedes-Benz automobiles to move his heard of 300 cattle across his ranch.
