Oil painting on board entitled “The Winning Hand”, signed lower center E. L. Blumenschein. The reverse shows label for American Magazine #1290, September 1916 issue. With title and Fenn Galleries label on reverse. Approx. 18-1/2” by nearly 34”. E. L. Blumenshchein was a successful illustrator who was one of the founders of the Taos Art Colony. Early in his career he was an illustrator in New York and shared a studiowith Bert Phillips. The scene portrays a man in winter garb attempting to save the life of a Chinese man with broken leg in splint. It would be interesting to read the story this illustration was made for in the AmericanMagazine. Condition is fine to near excellent and is nicely framed. Artwork by Blumenschein is actively sought after by collectors nationwide. Est: $12,500 - $25,000
