This oil painting on canvas was presumably created in France in the first quarter of the 19th century. A man in colorful, exotic clothing is goading on two oxen harnessing a cart with a dead stag upon it, followed by a pack of hounds. In the background of the old master painting in a dark palette extends a landscape.

The varnished surface of the painting shows craquelure. The canvas has also been relined, shows some color flaking and framing marks. Inspection under UV light reveals several areas of retouching, especially to the sky, the stag and the trees. The embellished and partially golden wooden frame shows color and material loss in parts. The dimensions are 68.5 x 84 cm and the framed dimensions are 85 x 100 cm. (kwi)
