Offered in this lot is an Original Signed Oil Painting on Board of a Peruvian Woman with Top Hat, '71 Chandra. The Indigenous peoples of South America's Andes mountains are known for their European-style headdresses: Bolivian Bowlers, Peruvian Chullos and Monteras, Andean Meztizo-style Welsh hats. Starting with bowlers brought to South America by European companies for their railroad construction employees, it was found that the hats were too small for the working men, they were sold to women after convincing them it was a European fashion statement to wear such small hats. Other styles soon including Fedoras and top hats. This is a lovely piece with warm tones mounted in a rustic wood frame. Slight scuffing to frame edges. Visible art measures 16.75"W x 18.25"L, frame 19.25"W x 21.5"L x .5"D, weight 1lb, 14oz.
