Oil Painting, “Abraham Lincoln” by D. W Stokes
Oil Painting, “Abraham Lincoln” by D. W Stokes, c.1910. This dramatic oil portrait of the sixteenth president measures 24” x 30”. It is based on the famous photograph taken by Anthony Berger, partner of Matthew Brady, at a special sitting at the Brady Gallery in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, February 9, 1864. The photograph of Lincoln is known as the “Five Dollar Bill” pose, because of its long use on that bill. Another photograph taken at that sitting was the basis for the likeness of Lincoln on the one cent coin. For some unknown reason, in sitting for the portraits taken that day, Lincoln parted his hair on the right side, instead of the left side. This is an extremely well executed and attractive painting, in fine condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Large (view shipping information)
