Sent to Allen A. Curtis, believed to be the assayer for letters No. 133@139 (24 silver bars in value of $30,136.41 and associated payments. Signed by Secr. Morgan L. Ogden. Letterhead on Manhattan Silver Mining Company of Nevada. Nassau St. Address lined out 113 Broadway Room 39 handwritten above. The company was the largest producer of silver in the district during this time (evident by the large issue of silver bars mentioned in the letter). The Manhattan was the first company to use the Stedfeldt Furnace, which reduced costs by half. The cost savings saved the company from bankruptcy (Abbe) and it continued producing until the late 1880's. Previously folded. Minor staining at folds. Fine.City: AustinCounty: LanderState: NV
