<B>Official British Patent Documents in Box from Her Majesty’s Patent Office</B></I>, Patent No. 1441, May 22, 1868, granted to Alfred V. Newton for Improvements in the Rotary Steam Engine. <BR><BR>The <B>Patent Office Box</B></I>, measuring 8.5” x 11.25” x 2”, is made of wood, covered with brown leather on the outside, beige paper on the inside, and connected by two metal hinges and clasp. The left side of the container includes an identification tag. The container is in very good condition: the exterior leather is worn and includes some tears and chipping on the front; the interior paper is intact, except for some moderate tears and chipping.<BR><BR>The three folded documents inside include:<BR><B>Patent Grant Document No. 1441</B></I>, parchment, 30.5” x 23” (unfolded), printed, with illustrations, on both sides and including handwritten information pertaining to the inventor and his invention: <I>“Alfred Vincent Newton for the Office of Patents 66 Chancery Lane in the County of Middlesex Mechanical Draftsman”</B></I> for <I>“Improvements in Rotary Steam Engines”. </B></I>Attached at top left is a five-pound patent stamp. <B>Condition</B></I>: fine with folds and minor creases.<I> <BR></B></I><B>Patent Warrant Document No. 1441</B></I>, parchment, 25.25” x 17.75” (unfolded), printed, with illustrations, on one side with the name of the inventor handwritten, describes the conditions attached to the patent. <B>Condition</B></I>: fine with folds, minor creases, and some yellowing.<BR><B>Specifications Document</B></I>, 6.75” x 8.5” (folded), printed, containing the inventor’s specifications for “Improvements in Rotary Steam Engines.” <B>Condition</B></I>: good with soiling and some foxing.<BR><BR><b>Shipping:</b> Books & Catalogs (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.heritageauctions.com/common/shipping.php">view shipping information</a>)
