Civil War Officer’s Writing Desk With Cased 1849 Colt Iron Guard Pocket Revolver. Desk & firearm are inscribed C. (Chapman) Biddle; the mahogany lap writing desk opens to a red velvet writing surface with interior lids concealing storage compartment, hinges are stamped P.M. & Co. Patent. The desk is filled with period accessories including officer’s shoulder boards, brass letter opener, inkwells on their respective compartments, stamp in the stamp slot, writing utensils, straight edge razor, white gold filled pocket knife, reading glasses, Hamilton open faced gold filled 17 jewel model 956 pocket watch (serial no. 1171194), button & pill box containing civil war period Indian head pennies. The main compartment contains an 1849 Colt Iron Guard Pocket Revolver and effects. 4 in. long octagonal barrel with .31 caliber riffled boar, hinged ramrod, iron trigger guard and strap, walnut grips and 5 shot cylinder with stage coach holdup scene; signed on the top of the barrel in 2 lines Address Sam Colt, New-York City, has matching serial number 152300(c.1859) on all parts including barrel, frame, cylinder, wedge, guard & strap; the strap is inscribed C. Biddle 121st P.V.I. Nice set, in overall good condition, bore, barrel & cylinder show some minor pitting and dings; box measures 4 in. high x 14 in. wide x 9 in. deep.
