Lot of two. 1) A receipt from the office of the Assistant Treasurer in regards to paying a fee for a patent on an improvement of an existing machine. The Receipt is numbered 1167, dated July 21, 1857, and certified for Peter Silmers of St. Louis. The fee for the patent was $10. A Vignette of George Washington is on the left side. Left side has been severed. Isaac H. Sturgeon, Assistant Treasurer signed the receipt; he was responsible for recruiting a local militia to guard the Treasury during the Civil War. Overall in Fair condition. 2)A receipt from the office of the Assistant Treasurer in regards to paying a fee for a patent on an improvement of an existing machine. The Receipt is numbered 1859, dated July 9, 1857 and certified Frederick S of St. Louis. The patent fee was for $30. A Vignette of George Washington is on the left side. Left side has been severed. Isaac H. Sturgeon, Assistant Treasurer signed the receipt; he was responsible for recruiting a local militia to guard the Treasury during the Civil War. Overall in Fair condition.
