Auction Details

The Canadian Coinoisseur October Torex® Auction consists of 3030 lots, which will be sold in three sessions on Thursday, Friday and Saturday the 23rd, 24th and 25th of October at the Hilton Toronto Airport. Among the outstanding aspects of this auction are the multiples of most of the key dates in the Canadian Decimal series. For example, among the Fifty Cents Pieces there are two 1870 No LCWs, six 1872H Inverted A Over Vs, five 1890Hs, two 1921s, forty-one examples of the 1932 and seven examples of the 1947 Maple Leaf Curved 7. Around ninety percent of the lots have been certified and the total catalogue value is around $3 million.

The First Session, at 5:30 pm on Thursday the 23rd begins with a few bulk lots, Mint Sets, and Error Coins, then progresses through Gold Coins, World Crowns and Minors, Tokens, Medals and Maritime Decimal Coins. Then come nearly 350 lots of Five Cents Pieces and the session concludes with over 430 lots of Twenty and Twenty-Five Cents Pieces.

Session Two, at 5:30 pm on Friday the 24th of October, begins with over 220 lots of Small Cents, continues with over 340 lots of Ten Cents Pieces and concludes with 430 lots of Fifty Cents Pieces.

Session Three, at 5:30 pm on Saturday the 25th commences with over 270 lots of Large Cents, continues with over 420 lots of Silver Dollars and concludes with 329 lots of high grade Paper Money, mostly certified by PMG.

There are fifty-six consignors contributing to this sale. Four of these had old-time collections and were attempting to assemble Canadian Decimal complete. For this reason, there are multiples of many of the major key dates, many of which infrequently appear even individually at auction. Of the 3030 lots in the sale, nearly 2500 are Canadian Decimal Coins, and well over 90% of these are certified by ICCS. This group amalgamates into Canada near-complete in an outstanding mix of grades from nice collectible pieces to the finest known examples. There appears to be something for nearly everyone. The Paper in the sale, except for the Bank of Canada Sales, is quite likely the most consistently high-grade grouping to come to auction in this country.
