OUTSTANDING GROUP OF TAOS PHOTOGRAPHS BY JACKSON<p>Lot of 18, unmounted 13 x 10 albumen photographs by William Henry Jackson. Subjects include nine images in or around Taos, Pueblo, four of which are architectural overviews of the town, one a portrait of two potters, Maria and Benina; three others ethnographic studies of Pueblo residents, and one a view of the "Sacred Grove." In addition, there are two images taken in the "Grand Canyon" of the Arkansas River, one a trackside distant view of the Toltec Gorge; one of the Montezuma Cathedral; one in Platte Canyon; one of a painting of a smelter or refinery; and three of taxidermy mounts -- buffalo, coyotes and bald eagle.<p>Most with rich, dark tones, several with short margin tears, each with an inked price tag (5 or 10 cents) in an upper corner that has bled through, and is visible on the proper side of the print. By and large these can easily be matted.
