OUTSTANDING AMERICAN MINIATURE ON IVORY PLUS. Lot of 5 related items. Including an outstanding American miniature on ivory dated 1814. This oval double-sided (2 individual pieces) ivory is mounted in an unmarked gold frame with pendant mount. Front has clasped hands with lace sleeves above a globe with dove carrying olive branch and "Peace On Earth" inscribed on globe. Above hands are 3 winged cherubim head and inscription above "Good Will Towards Men." Cover glass has eglomisé border in black with gilt inscription "March 25th P.G. Chinnery Lodge No. 10, 1814." Reverse painting is even nicer with wonderful landscape with 3 young women; one woman at left in blue e dress holds a tablet that reads the Biblical quote "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" and "Jon XIX Vs 25." The woman in center, in red leans on anchor, while woman at right in yellow has 3 small children, 2 cupids above with ribbon banner that reads "To The Elycian Gate." Rear cover is hinged and glass cracked. Other items include a 6th plate daguerreotype of the owner, signed in matt, "C. Evens Philad."; PLUS a 9th plate tintype of a young man in Union type case; a folio 1/2 leather bound periodical entitled "The Plow Boy," Vol. 1, Albany 1820; PLUS a copper wheel-engraved Pittsburgh goblet bowl (stem missing) with Masonic symbols; a nearly destroyed San Francisco Express Office check dated 1852; AND a manuscript letter sheet by one Charles Dulton, mentioning the above miniature, dated 1853.
