CREDENZA ATTRIBUTED TO POTTIER & STYMUS. Last quarter 19th century, New York City. August Pottier or William Stymus started their business in 1859 in New York City. They produces some truly lavish furnishings. This extraordinary cabinet is embellished by bronze busts of classical maidens at the corner and in the frieze. The central door features a bronze plaque within a molded panel depicting a maiden pouring water from an urn. The credenza with concave molded raised top with baise liner. The case has a molded central door mounted with a classical bronze figure, opening to a bird's eye maple interior with a single shelf. This is flanked by corbels decorated by incised carved gilt vinery and surmounted by pilasters with bronze female busts, further flanked by incurved sides with ornate marquetry panels of ribbon-tied floral garlands entwining a torch. The blocked base is finished with incised gilt carvings and raised on molded feet. The borders throughout the credenza are comprised of polished cast-bronze decorations of varying design.
