Additional Information : This original Lithograph is Hand Signed in pencil by the artist ‘O. Zadkine’ at the lower right corner.
It is also Hand Numbered in pencil 8/350 at the lower left corner.
The work is furthermore signed in the plate by the artist.
This lithograph was printed in 1960 in a limited edition of only 350 impressions as part of the series "Les Traveaux d'Hercule" (Die Arbeiten des Herakles) that was illustarated with 28 diffirent original lithographs by Zadkine to the myth of Euripides.
The work was published by Christopher Czwiklitzer in Koln, Germany.
This lithograph illustrates the bird of Stymphalos that according the the Greek Mythology was part of a flock of man-eating birds which haunted Lake Stymphalis in Arkadia. Herakles' destroyed them as his sixth labour, employing first a rattle to rouse them from the thick vegetation of the lake, then shooting them down one by one with bow and arrow or a sling.
The birds were then placed amongst the stars as the constellations Aquila, Lyra and Cygnus.
