<p><b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'>OSIP MANDELSHTAM </span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial; color:windowtext'>(1891-1938). One of the three great Acmeist poets whose works are characterized by concise precision. Much of his early poetry is contained in his two collections, <i>Stone</i> (1913) and <i>Tristina</i> (1922). Arrested in 1934, Mandelshtam was exiled first to the Ural region and then to Voronezh. In 1938 he was arrested again, sentenced to forced labor, and died in harrowing circumstances in Vladivostok. Signed Russian postcard photograph, b/w, 3½"x5½" bust portrait. Boldly signed across image, adding “<i>3. / IV.1934</i>,” in purple ink. Postage stamp affixed on verso. 1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.
