ORIGINAL GERMAN STEYR MP40 SMG.
Cal. 9mm. S# 5830e. Bbl. 9 9/10". Hooded fixed blade front sight, rear sight is windage drift adj. 2 Piece folding leaf. Of all the German WWII era SMGs, the MP40 may be the most iconic of them all. Its slow cyclic rate combined w/ decent sights & pleasant ergonomics make it as fun to operate as it is interesting to look at. It utilizes a very simplistic, yet incredibly smooth open bolt firing mechanism. The recoil system is typical of German over engineering consisting of a 3 piece telescoping rod w/ a captured spring that doubles as the connection point for the firing pin which slides inside of the bolt. The safety mechanism is an extremely simple design which shares commonalties w/ other WWII era SMGs. It consists of a rearward notch that interfaces w/ the cocking handle holding the bolt to the rear. Manufactured in 1943 by Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG as designated by receiver code "bnz.43". This MP40 utilizes a 3d generator mag. housing which includes the ribs for strength & square notch facing the shooter. It appears that there are a large amount of matching numbered components including bbl., trigger housing, stock, bolt, bbl. nut, front trunnion, front sights, etc. Waffenamts appear on multiple parts including rear receiver just above folding stock mechanism "WaA623", front sight mechanism just forward of resting bar is also Eagle "623", front of receiver tube just rear of bbl. nut Eagle w/ "WaA623", which are correct Steyr stampings. Under folding stock, dark brown Bakelite grips & lower receiver cover. Original resting bar has been replaced. CONDITION: good bore w/extremely strong rifling. Original blued finish remains present w/ some areas thinning to light brown w/ traces of extremely gentle patina. Stock locks tight in both folding & extended positions. Grips appear in nice condition free of any obvious damage & Bakelite receiver has normal scratches w/ only slight indentation at rear above folding stock mechanism. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT CURIO & RELIC REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1457/JZ). CLASS III. $20,000-30,000.
