AN ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING OF A COVERED BRIDGE IN INDIANA
An unusual and well-executed original oil painting of one of the few remaining covered wooden bridges in America, located around Crawfordsville, Indiana. The collector of this piece informed me that he personally grew up in the area and walked this bridge many times. Painted in a realistic style, this work succeeds in conveying to the viewer unfamiliar with this type of bridge, the experience of the perspective and geometry of the bridge's design, as well as of being inside and looking through the other side to a snow-covered country landscape scene of a farmhouse, field and trees.
The artist has signed this painting at lower right. Stapled to the wood stretcher bar on the reverse is a typewritten label from the Indiana State Fair, into which this painting was entered. Among various identifying numbers, it also reads, 'Oil Painting, Professional Division', and the name and address of the artist at the time. Photo of the reverse is available upon request. The painting is in excellent condition, is stretched on wood and framed in matching color-stained solid wood. Dimensions are 26.75" high by 38.6" wide.
