One of the highlights of the sale. An outstanding carved whale bone, walrus ivory and baleen scrimshaw cane with a3 part carved ivory knob, separated by baleen washers. The top has a nicely carved Turk's head or sailor's knot,1.5" diameter and 2.25" high. Total length of the ivory portion is 6". The shaft is a single tapered piece of whalebone with carving of various types along the entire length, including large & small cross-hatching, ribs, spirals andflutes. This stick seems to have never had a ferrule. Total length of cane 33". Wonderful old mellow patina,throughout.Some light staining of walrus ivory and tight hairlines, else excellent.(EST 1500-2000)
