(ON MCCLELLAN AND THE MARCH TO FREDERICKSBURG)
War-date letter from Private William E. Morse, 4pp. 8vo., "Camp of the 2nd N. H. Reg.", Nov. 20, 1862, in pencil, concerning the opening of the Fredericksburg campaign and the replacement of George McClellan as commander of the Army of the Potomac, in part: "...it is expected that we are going to Fredericksburg. We broke camp at Centreville day before yesterday…and carried our knapsacks…several of our Co. were detailed to go on picket…we are encamped on Opequon Creek…it is the place that the rebels fortified last winter very strong…the soldiers are very well satisfied with the change in commanders although many were strongly attached to McClellan…". Morse would be mortally wounded during the battle of Fredericksburg, dying two dates later. Very good.
