OHIO SAMPLER.
Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, 1848, wool on linen. Sets of alphabets surrounded by colorful rose border. Signed "Rhoda Jane Carlton Made this Sampler in her 14th Year, Cleveland, Ohio, 1848." In a frame, 23"h. 20 1/2"w. Ex Charles Momchilov (Ohio).

Rhoda was the daughter of Christopher C. Carlton, a wealthly insurance agent and his wife, Jane Stow. By the 1860 Cleveland census, Rhoda and her husband, James W. Lee, were living in her father's home with their three small children.
