OHIO RAPID FIRE M76 8MM RIFLE.

Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 25936. Bbl. 22". Original Zastava M76 rifle in the impressive 8mm chambering has always been a desirable offering. They first made their splash in the United States in 1986 w/ an initial order of 400 rifles, that would be in a configuration that today is known as pre-ban. It would be over a decade before imports would resume. In that period of time they had built a fairly strong following. It appeared that demand would finally be met when 2,000 more were approved for import & sold out in just over 10 days. In a disastrous turn of events the ATF declared every previously approved rifle to be a machine gun due to the oversight of the original mfg. installing a safety sear, which required a dreaded 3rd hole in the receiver. They were all recalled & every firearm was torch cut. Around that time Rapid Fire went to work to design a domestically mfg. variant & started an initial run of 50 utilizing parts from original guns. This example started life as a 26 lb billet of 4140 & several hundred machining operations later, came to life. Some may argue that the Rapid Fire version is superior to the original given details of the mfg. process such as the side mount scope rail being a machined portion of the receiver rather than riveted on like the originals. The new receiver sports #25935, matching the original parts kit including stock & bolt carrier. Trigger group is an adj. Red Star Arms assembly. Front sight base is integral w/ an M14 style flash hider & is protected post. Elevation adj. tangent rear sight graduated to 1000 yards. Sight radius just over 21". The operating system is a gas operated rotating bolt system like utilized in the AK47 platform & is adj. for gas pressure. Op rod terminated w/ a recoil buffer. Wood resembles teak. Matte black spray on finish. Includes correct mount outfitted w/ a ZRAC ON-M 76B scope w/ correct reticle for this rifle. Tritium no longer active. MAGS: 5-10 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Blade bayonet & scabbard, canvas scope cover & green canvas No8MK2 hard-side scope case. CONDITION: wood exhibits scattered compressions typical of military issue firearms. Metal finish is consistent throughout all surfaces w/ only light thinning on areas of friction related to operation. Clean bore w/ well pronounced rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (22-2397/JZ). MODERN. $1,200-1,800.
