OH. Mount Vernon. Bank of Mount Vernon. $10. 1800s. (Haxby Unlisted; Wolka 1740-02). Proof on India paper. Washington standing by cannon at center. This note, a Reed proof, is one of two known. The other note came from the Strong Museum and is on yellow paper. The bank is completely missing in Haxby, and Wolka illustrates a museum-owned $5 note. That note shares a similarity in the signature block cancellation, and suggests that these two notes were from the same sheet. Since the bank apparently did not open, issued notes are not available to collectors. All that leaves this one lone example, waiting to enter the next great Ohio collection. Reed. R-7. VF+.
