Two fine clear glass back bar bottles for your saloon collection. 1) A 10.5 tall whiskey bottle with scalloped shoulder and base. Edgewood in white enamel on front of bottle, with some damage to the first letter`s enamel. Edgewood whiskey has a long and rich history beginning with Thomas Paxton and A.G. Diehl. Cincinnati Ohio directories from 1874 Cincinnati list A.G. Diehl Co. Wines and Liquors, located at 32 East Second Street. The same address is listed elsewhere in the directory for Paxton Diehl, Distillers. The 1875 directory lists Diehl Paxton Brothers, and in 1877 the business listing read Paxton Bros. Co., "wholesale dealers in wines, brandies, and whiskies." During the late 1870s to early 1880s, the company made Edgewood Whiskey; its flagship brand of blended whiskey of both sour mash and rye. The figure of a corpulent man wearing a Shriner’s fez and tuxedo was used to promote the product. In ads, the words "I drink Edgewood Whiskey everywhere. are written across his broad chest. Throughout its existence Paxton Bros. was principally identified with the Fat Man and in 1887 it changed its name to the Edgewood Distilling Co. Ohio enacted complete prohibition of alcoholic beverages in 1916, thus Edgewood Distilling and Paxton Bros. Co. went out of business forever. 2) An 11 tall clear glass whiskey bottle with scalloped shoulder and base. Burwood in white enamel of front of bottle. Little information on Burwood is available, but this bottle likely date c1890s. Other known Burwood whiskey bottles feature an enameled leopard on front. HKA#63198
