O.M. Robinson Tube-Loading Rifle, NSNV, .38 cal., 24'' octagon blue barrel marked ''Robinson's Patent Apr-28, 1872'', by Adirondack Firearms, Plattsburgh, NY; 3/4-length magazine tube, niter-blue loading gate, bronze frame and buttplate, with smooth walnut stock; standard wheel adjust rear sight, and Lyman combination front. This example is known as the Model 1872 with 2nd Model frame. It is interesting to note that the Adirondack Firearms Co. was purchased in its entirety by Winchester in 1874; they, in turn, never utilized the patents or marketed the firearms, in effect, absorbing the competition. The variances in configurations are numerous, as these rifles were hand built. Magazine lock-out switch is marked ''Hd''; left side of frame is marked ''Pt''; the number ''5'' is found on the right barrel flat at breech. Condition is about fine retaining approx. 80% thinning and toning blue to barrel and mag tube, nice even patina to brass frame and triggerguard, breech!
block has thinned to approx. 30%. Stock with light dings and minor scuffs and some darkening near metal surfaces; stock does not appear to have been sanded, with minor losses near upper tang. Upper tang area between screw and frame with one brass dovetail splice (appears to be filler block for tang sight). Action functions as designed, bore is fair to good and may clean somewhat. Scarce in any configuration. A firearm design that truly worried the founders of Winchester Repeating Arms. Est.: $4,000-$6,000.
