Attention collectors of mining, Nevada, and postal histories, unique cover and letter combination. BUTLER (1901-1905, became TONOPAH 1905-present), 1 cover, 1901, unique reddish-brown cancellation. Contents include a letter written by J. L. Butler. Jim L. Butler is credited with the discovery of the Mizpah vein in 1900, near modern day Tonopah. Soon after, the second great mining era came to Nevada and helped to revive the state from an economic lull. The town-name of Butler lasted until 1905, afterward named Tonopah. The letter, dated November 20th 1901, is written on Tonopah Mining Company (TMC) letterhead and is addressed to Charles Kan… The TMC led all other companies in production between the years of 1901 and 1910. The letter discusses mines, miners, and prospecting at claims (two pages).
