This nut cracker was made in central Europe in the early 1820's. Horn beam wood was used, then carved out more than half way down the length of the vessel and nuts were placed in side, to then be crushed by a pestle, the meat was seperated from the nut shell and then used for consumption. The detail of the ringlets is lovely and although this is an old piece it has a modern feel.
