Artist's Note
My "Rejects from the Bat Factory" series began when my young son pressed me to turn a bat for him that had a hollow in the end, as he had seen on a close up shot of a player on TV. I was reluctant to do it as I was busy but he said "Dad! You have a lathe and you have the wood, make me a bat!" Pretty compelling from your six-year old. So I made it and afterwards thought that it is such a wonderful, totally functional form that could provide a good blank canvas for multi-axis forms that I was beginning to explore. That was the start of a series that continues for twenty-three years now.
About Mark Sfirri
Mark Sfirri is well-known in the woodturning world for his brain-bending multi-axis work, and for the humor he brings to both presentations and his artwork. Trained as an artist, woodworker, furniture maker and industrial designer, Mark is also an academic, with a particular interest in the Studio Furniture Movement and the work of Wharton Esherick.
A well-respected artist, Mark's work is in over two dozen museum collections, including those of The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Museum of Arts & Design, The Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and The Detroit Institute of Art. Mark has been recognized for his art and his teaching, and is the recipient of the Collectors of Wood Art Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Renwick, among others.
A dedicated educator, Mark has run the Fine Woodworking Program at Bucks County Community College in Newtown, Pennsylvania since 1981. He lectures and demonstrates woodturning and woodworking design and techniques throughout the US, Canada, France, Ireland, England, New Zealand, and Australia.

All EOG auction items will be available for on-site viewing beginning Thursday, June 9 at 5:30PM Eastern at the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart, 240 Peachtree St NW #2200, Atlanta, GA 30303. Remote bidding on-line is open. The live auction starts at 7:30PM Eastern time on Friday, June 10. Remote bidders will be able to bid live during the auction via a live audio feed. You must be pre-registered to bid online.

Shipping Details:
SHIPPING: After the purchase price has been paid in full and after the sale has been completed, property must be removed from the auction at the Buyer’s expense. The American Association of Woodturners will, as a service to Buyers, arrange to have the property packed, insured, and shipped via UPS at the request, expense and entire risk of the Buyer. Any claims will be between carrier and Buyer.

Bidders who bid from off-site and are not present at the live auction understand and acknowledge that they may not be able to inspect an item as well as if they examined it in person.
2. DISPUTES: The American Association of Woodturners shall designate the winning bidder after each item is auctioned. If a dispute arises between two or more bidders, the American Association of Woodturners reserves the right to reopen bidding. The American Association of Woodturner's designation of a buyer shall be final.
3. BIDDING & PRE-BIDDING: The American Association of Woodturners is providing internet and live bidding as a service to bidders. Bidders acknowledge and understand that this service may or may not function correctly the day of the auction. Under no circumstances shall a bidder have any claim against the American Association of Woodturners or anyone else if the internet service fails to operate correctly before or during the live auction.
4. The American Association of Woodturners has the right to accept or deny bidders from attending their auctions, both in person and online.
5. Online bidders agree and understand that they will not be invoiced and may not be able to pay until the entire, onsite auction is over. All purchases will be charged to your credit card immediately following the auction. Any other payment arrangement must be arranged and approved by the American Association of Woodturners a minimum of 48 hours prior to the auction.
