Now, Voyager (Warner Brothers, 1942). Insert (14" X 36"). This Bette Davis melodrama is best remembered for a gesture and a quote. After Paul Henreid placed two cigarettes in his mouth, lit them, and then passed one to Bette Davis, many men imitated the suave, and subtly suggestive, move. However, Henreid was not the first to try the routine, and not even the first with Davis; a similar exchange occurred ten years earlier between Davis and George Brent in "The Rich Are Always with Us." The closing quote in the film's ambiguous ending has earned equal fame over the years: when Davis and Henreid both realize that external pressures will not allow their mutual love to actualize, Davis tells him, "Don't ask for the moon when we have the stars." We also have this insert, which has undergone repair for tears in the image area, wear on the bottom fold line and pinholes in the borders. Two extra horizontal fold lines have been touched up as well. Fine.
