November 1963, Extremely Rare original Pair of Official Gold and Black Printed “Texas Welcome Dinner” PRESS and STAFF Badges for Admittance to the Dinner to be held in Honor of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Austin, TX., Choice Crisp Extremely Fine and Near Mint. The people of Texas were welcoming President Kennedy when the deafening sound of a firing rifle shattered the party mood along Dealey Plaza in Dallas. The Kennedy assassination meant the “Texas Welcome Dinner” at the Municipal Auditorium in Austin on the evening of November 22, 1963, was canceled. The exclusive 'optional dress' dinner event was to be held for President Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson and their wives at 7:30 p.m. - but JFK was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. that very afternoon. Each of these two rare original “Texas Welcome Dinner” Badges (not signed), measure 3.5" x 2.25". The cardstock paper "PRESS" ID Badge #193 was fully issued for the “Texas Welcome Dinner” in Austin, still housed in its original clear plastic sleeve with pin attachment on verso. It is here offered together with a similar official Gold and Black print "STAFF" Badge for State Democratic Executive Committee of Texas members (no plastic holder). These Two historic Badges read, in full:

1. “Texas Welcome Dinner / Honoring / President and Mrs. Kennedy / and / Vice President and Mrs. Johnson / Sponsored by the State Democratic Executive Committee of Texas / PRESS / No. 193”.

2. Badge reads the same as above, except for use of the designation “STAFF” in lieu of Press. (2 items).
The fateful motorcade that wound through Dealey Plaza the afternoon of November 22, 1963 was carrying President Kennedy to the Dallas Business and Trade Mart where he was to give a speech. Afterwards the President and his entourage were to travel on to Austin where that evening Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon Johnson were to be guests of honor at the “Texas Welcome Dinner” given by the State Democratic Executive Committee. Of course tragic events that day necessitated the cancellation of the event.
