Nova Britannia. Offering Most Excellent Fruit
Nova Britannia. Offering Most Excellent Fruits by Planting in Virginia. Exciting all such as be well affected to further the same. A slender, exquisite "art press" reprint, "250 copies printed, of which fifty are on Large Paper," of the seminal 1609 tract on old Virginia. New York: Printed for J. Sabin, 1867, 7 x 8 1/2 , unpaginated, uncut at heads, cream boards. "The tract...is the production of one of the subscribers to the company of 'Adventurers'...in the project of planting colonies in America." Principally set in Blackletter type, with several charming woodcuts. Lower right portion somewhat darkened from smoke, some cover waterstains, spine chipped at bottom, text lightly foxed, but generally very good. A cornerstone in Americana, the 1609 printing being, of course, essentially uncollectible by virtue of rarity.
