Framed collection of four historical typed letters documenting the inaugural football series between the University of Notre Dame and Ohio State University, spanning 1934 to 1935. The set features correspondence between Notre Dame Director of Athletics Elmer F. Layden and Ohio State Director of Athletics L.W. St. John. Two letters on University of Notre Dame Athletic Association letterhead are hand-signed by Elmer F. Layden, a member of the legendary Four Horsemen. The earliest letter, dated February 20, 1934, includes significant handwritten marginalia detailing the scheduled dates for the 1935 game in Columbus and the 1936 game in South Bend, along with financial terms for gate receipts. The collection also includes two file copies of letters from L.W. St. John to Layden, including a December 4, 1935, communication regarding a partial settlement check for thirty thousand dollars following the first game of the series. Housed in a dark wood horizontal frame with a label on the reverse for The Frame Station in Columbus, Ohio.
