Notes, Sketches by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky
Handwritten Notes and Sketches by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Signed. One page, two sided, 8.75 x 5.5", n.p., n.d. Tsiolkovsky was a Russian rocket scientist and space travel theorist who published more than 500 works on space travel and related subjects. Among his works are designs for rockets with steering thrusters, multi-stage boosters, space stations, airlocks, and closed biological systems designed to provide oxygen and food for space colonists. Here, Tsiolkovsky makes notes about weightlessness in space. Roughly translated, it reads in part: "The power of earth weight acts the same way on both the rocket and bodies inside it. That is why there is no difference in the movement of the rocket and bodies put inside it. [As] they drink water, and any other liquids, the liquid moves in circles inside the vessel... Even the most common needs of man in a weightless condition, demand some technical devices." The page is signed by Tsiolkovsky and includes several interesting sketches, the most impressive of which is his idea of a spacewalk, with humans floating freely while tethered to the main spacecraft structure. Moderate soiling and age toning; very good condition.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
