Stamped with D U S M and A T in the center of badge, appears this was a round badge that had a triangle cut from the bottom to create a variation of the crescent and star. Comes with the oath of office of James H. Mershon, November 1885, as Marshal of the United States for the Western District of Arkansas. Replaced and broken pin. 1 ¾” in diameter. Includes affidavit from Tony Perrin and original Oath of Office. The oath and badge have been together for many years but we cannot state with certainty that they have always been together. Deputy U.S. Marshal J. H. Mershon died in an insane asylum in Terril, Texas in 1899.
