Northwest coast Native carved Wolf Mask by George D
Native carved Wolf Mask by world class carver George David. red cedar, cedar bark, painted 19" long & 5.5" height. I have seen David George working on this piece as just to put the teeth in the wolf, it took him 10 days of work. as he is very percise in his work...he wont let go piece till he is fully satisfied. Born on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in the village of Clayoquot, George David is of Nuu-chah-nulth heritage. His father and mother were always very active in traditional Nuu-chah-nulth culture and emphasized the passing on of this rich history to their children through artwork, songs, dances, and storytelling. It is no wonder that many members of the David family are well-recognized artists. George was encouraged from an early age to create art and was inspired by his older brother Joe David and cousin Art Thompson. Today George is an internationally acclaimed master carver. His pieces can be found in the collections of King Olaf of Norway, and the City Hall of Kobe, Japan. He has completed numerous commissions including two thirty-six foot canoes for Chief Seattle's gravesite, and many monumental totems. In addition, George continues to pass on the traditions of his heritage through teaching. We can not put price on George David's work as it is priceless as his work is very highly appreciated. rnbut still we would say msrp 7900 dollars for this piece.
