Northern Texas Comanche War Club c. 1870's
This is a terrific Southern Plains stone head war club attributed to the Comanche in Northern Texas from circa 1870’s. The piece is comprised of a large stone head wrapped and secured in thick wetted and stretched rawhide parfleche hide, sewn with sinew and thick thread. The crude haft was made from a tree branch that was cut and carved smooth. There is a small wrap of fringe at the top, old brass trade tacks, and long frilly fringe Indian tanned hide drop at the bottom. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Dale Harrison out of Ohio. The head measures 3 inches wide; the haft length not including the fringe measures 20 inches.
