Northern Plains Beaver Tail Sheath & Trade Knife
The knife sheath is comprised of beaver tail hide over parfleche rawhide in the Northern Plains pattern paired with an old pewter inlaid knife. The sheath shows the beaver tail hide with wonderful scale pattern being sinew like sewn with an old wool trade clothe border at the opening and commercial leather belt tie atop as well as Indian hide fringes at the bottom. The sheath is paired with a classic mid-to-late-1800's pewter inlaid bone handle kitchen knife. There is a tag inside the sheath which is written, "Northern Plains 1880 Beaver Tail with Elk Rawhide liner. Faded red wool mouth trim. Old age commercial leather strap. Age patina. / (back is not legible except..) inlay. American made circa 1860-80's age". The sheath shows some slight cracking at the end, nice dark coloring. The knife is well kept. Together the set measures 10-inches long without fringes / ties by 3.25-inches wide.
