Northern Plains Beaded Dress c. 1950-
This is an excellent Indian tanned hide beaded child’s dress from the Northern Plains Native American Indians dating to the mid-to-late-1900’s. The dress likely originated from the Blackfeet or Crow and is in well preserved condition with nice supple soft hide and little to no bead loss. The beadwork is all glass trade seed beads with hide fringe holding wound glass cylindrical tube beads. The beadwork shows a linear pattern often scene on similar and early period dresses in colors of cobalt, greasy blue and red which goes from each sleeve across the chest such as cape with beadwork across the collar and below the beadwork Indian hide fringe holding the red and light / dark blue tube beads. Each sleeve, down each side and across the bottom is hand cut hide fringe. The bottom of the dress shows a line of beadwork along with three downward pointing triangles each holding the same fringe and tube beads (seen on both sides). Provenance: Found to be an authentic original by an expert in Billings, Montana and from an astounding collection of American Indian beadwork and artifacts from Sheridan, Montana. Measures 27”W by 33”L when laid flat.
