This is a set of fully beaded rare ankle cuffs or moccasin tongue covers from the Northern Plains Native American Indians. The set is from circa 1890 and shows well preserved condition with little to no bead loss. The piece shows a trade clothe backing with Indian tanned hide and excellent 19th Century glass trade seed beads in chalk white, semi-translucent red, sem-translucent green, rare black, and blue. These would have been worn above the foot on the tongue area of the moccasin wrapping around the ankle. Rarely seen ankle cuffs. The pieces show a a five point star with crosses on either sides, four diamonds and the name "JOE" on the bottom. Each measures 9"x5 3/8". Provenance: This is from a large Native American & Early American artifact private collection in Iowa.
