1901, Washington. Stock certificate for 3915 shares. Black. Issued to the Northern Pacific Railway Company and signed on verso by C.S. Mellen as NP president. Signed on front as President of the Northern Pacific Steamship Co. by Charles S. Mellen (1851 - 1927); Railroad executive; Financier. Mellen was the front man for many of J. Pierpont Morgan's railroad schemes, and was chosen by Morgan to be president of the Northern Pacific for him. Pen and punch cancellations through Mellen's signature on front, his signature on verso for the NP Railway is unaffected. An interesting piece with Mellen serving as Presidents for both concerns. Fine.
