1883. New York. Stock certificate for 50 shares. Brown/Black. Engraved vignette of a steam locomotive at top center, nice portrait vignette of Frederick Billings at bottom. Issued to American Baptist Publication Society and endorsed on verso by A. J. Rowland as Secretary and Acting Treasurer. Founded in 1841, the society organized as a mission to spread Baptist teachings. It was the first group of its kind to utilize chapel cars eventually building a relationship with the Northern Pacific Railroad traveling through the newly opening Northwest.
