North West Mounted Police issued Winchester Model 1876 lever action SRC, 45-75 cal., 22” round barrel, blue and case hardened finish, wood butt stock and full length fore stock, #34781. This gun is in overall good condition showing traces of original muted blue in protected areas of the barrel with scattered areas of erosion and pin prick pitting; the frame shows an overall grey patina with scattered areas of erosion and dings and mars; the bore is overall fair +, the action good and the markings on metal surfaces clear. The stocks are overall good with considerable wear as wood be expected and scattered numerous scratches, dings and mars from years of carry, storage and rack time. Importantly, the right side of the butt stock shows a correct “NWMP” marking inside a chevron and the gun is accompanied by a copy of page 57 of Lewis Yearout’s article, “Winchester’s Northwest Mounted Police Carbines”. Additionally, on the underside of the butt stock behind the lower tang is a stamping “L.O.F. 219” indicating this carbine may have been later passed to another Canadian law enforcement agency after its retirement from Mountie service. Est.: $3,500-$7,000.
