North Carson Silver Mining Co. Stock Certificate
Incorporated, October 16, 1874. Cert. #757 issued Apr. 23, 1875 to A.C. Perkins for 25 shares. Signed by J.D. Brown, president and asst. secretary [illegible]. Vertically running vignette of train at left and central vignette of miner with ore cart at the end of a track. The North Carson mine was the first mine of its magnitude in Ormsby County. In 1876, the Carson City mint valued the ore coming out of the mine at between $7.50 & $2132.17/ton. Even with this richness of ore, the mine gave no return to stockholders. "This caused troubles between factions [with]in the mine" and eventually, the superintendent (who had been living high on the hog) disappeared with a lady friend and the property closed down [REF: Davis, The History of Nevada, 2009, p. 982].
