This is a complete set of the two volumes titled, "Letters and Notes On The Manners, Customs and Condition of the North American Indians." by George Catlin. Volume I & Volume II. This is a First Edition circa 1841 published London by the Author, at the Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly. This edition features the error "Fredrick" on page 104, line 26 of volume 1, corrected to "Zedekiah". Exceedingly rare pieces published printed in circa 1841. Rare original red/black/gold clothe binding showing excellent detail and slight signs use indicative of its early age, otherwise in very good condition. These have four hundred illustrations engravings from Catlins original paintings by Catlin without color (rare). These were written during George Catlin's eight year travel amongst the wildest tribes of Indians in North American in 1832, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39. Similar Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly published works of George Catlin have sold for between $200,000 and $40,000. Provenance: From the private collection of J.D. Weidenfeller in Missoula, Montana large early American collection. Originally purchased from R.H. McKay (signed by R.H. McKay 1924) BY Weidenfeller. Also marked Afimeney 29th May 1893. Each volume measures 10.25"x7" x 1 3/8" thick. From circa 1841-1845.
