Twice-signed ALS, autographed as “Norman" and "Norman Rockwell,” one page, 5.75 x 8.5, Grand Hotel, Krasnapolsky letterhead, April 8, 1960. A handwritten letter in black ink, addressed to Gordon and Verna Rowe, in full: "I may be a little delayed. Not later than 6:30. See you then." Below is another message from Rockwell to the Rowes, this time penned in blue ballpoint: "My best wishes to two good friends Verna and Gordon Rowe who were my good Samaritans," with Rockwell adding a sketch of a small dog with a can tied to its tail. In very good condition, with overall creasing and a few small tears.

Included with the letter is the original travel diary belonging to the Rowes, who met Rockwell while they were vacationing in Europe. The couple bumped into Rockwell on April 7, 1960, and went to dinner with him that evening and the following. The first entry, in part: "Left London Airport at 10 AM for Amsterdam, Holland on a Viscount prop jet and a very smooth trip…and met a very distinguished traveler—Norman Rockwell, the artist. What a thrill. He asked if he could join us, so we palled around with him, he took us to the museum and taught us about art and invited us to be his guests at dinner. Had a wonderful steak dinner—best I've ever tasted, wine and everything. Excellent conversation and lots of laughs. Then we made another date for dinner Friday night."
