Norman Nodell - Classics Illustrated #71, Complet
Norman Nodell - Classics Illustrated #71, Complete 45-page Story, "The Man Who Laughs" Original Art (Gilberton, 1962). Norman Nodell detailed Victor Hugo's poignant tale, The Man Who Laughs, with his sinuous ink line. Here's an interesting side note for comic book fans: Hugo's story served as the basis for a 1928 silent film starring Conrad Veidt as Gwynplaine, "the man who laughs." Writer Bill Finger used a still from that film to inspire Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson's vision for the Joker. Nodell's version of Gwynplaine is very compelling. The pages of this yarn each have an image area measuring 12" x 18", and aside from a few lettering and art corrections, they average Excellent condition. Also included in with this lot are three pages of type-set text.
