Octavo. 626 pages, untrimmed.<BR><BR>Red cloth with silver and gold titles on spine and front cover. The front endpaper includes the embossed stamp of a previous owner. No dust jacket. Overall fine with minor wear.<BR><BR>During World War II, Norman Mailer (1923-2007) served with the 112th Cavalry in the Philippines. Though he saw limited combat, his experiences provided enough material for <I>The Naked and the Dead</B></I> (1948), his first and most popular novel. Considered one of the best wartime works, it also has been ranked by the Modern Library as one of the hundred best English-language novels.
