This beautiful hand painted flowers with cobalt blue and gold trim porcelain basket is marked: Moriyama / MM / Made in Japan placing the age circa 1920. I looked the mark up in the Kovel's 2004 book of marks and it showed the Moriyama mark and under it it said Noritake / Nagoya / Japan. Moriyama Pottery was located in Mori-Machi in Shizuoka prefecture. Moriyama Pottery was established in 1911 by Hidekichi Nakamura who was taught pottery making by Seison Suzuki. There are currently four studios continuing the Moriyama tradition in and around Mori-Machi and they are Seison, Seizon, Nakamura and Tame. There seems to be two primary stamps: one appears to be a crown with a wreath of leaves similar to the wreath found on the Noritake stamp. This stamp is marked "Moriyama Hand Paint Japan." The other one is a bouquet of flowers and is marked "Moriyama Made in Japan." In very good + condition with no chips or cracks it does have beautiful age crazing throughout and measure 4 inches tall with a 3 3/4 inch base. I have 2 of these baskets in stock. Price quoted is for each basket ordered. An addition to any Basket Collection.<BR>SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.
