Gordon Gallery, Londonderry, whence purchased by the family of the present owner in May 1991
Painted circa 1931-1937, when the artist was living in Hammersmith, London. The scene depicts the now demolished Atlanta and Albert Wharves on the Thames Quayside, where the so-called "Bell Steps" lead down from Hammersmith Terrace onto the waterfront. With a letter from the Gordon Gallery dating the work on the basis of the artist’s inscription.
