The sword has a 30 1/2 inch blade decoratedwith acid etched scroll and patriotic designs. An "S H" makers' mark on the reverse ricasso and "V.S." on the reverse surrounded by floral sprays and military trophies. The hilt has a pierced brass guard with floral decorations, a wire wrapped rayskin grip, and spread-winged eagle perched on top of the helmet shaped pommel. A brass fitted brown leather scabbard.

Condition: Good. Light age spotting and the blade has scattered discoloring with some minor pitting near the tip. There are several dings on the edge and a small amount of rust on the ricasso. The acid etching is clear and most of the frosted background remains intact. The scabbard has a leather body with brass drag and suspension bards. The hilt has an attractive, un-touched patina with strong traces of the original gilt finish. The grip and wire wrap are in very good condition. The leather scabbard is in poor condition with several breaks in the leather body.
